Alarmingly raw compared to the prim-and-polished studio wizardry of \u003cstrong\u003eMassive Attack\u003c\/strong\u003e, both Tricky and Saunders were relatively inexperienced with samplers so the results are delightfully haphazard: dodgy pitch-shifting (\"Overcome\"), straight loops (\"Pumpkin\"), the \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=michael+jackson\" target=\"_blank\"\u003ebiggest pop artist in the world\u003c\/a\u003e (\"Brand New You’re Retro), sometimes just blatantly stealing \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?\u0026amp;q=dummy\u0026amp;filter=Brand\/Manufacturer\/Artist_fq:%22Portishead%22\" target=\"_blank\"\u003ethe latest hit record\u003c\/a\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?\u0026amp;q=dummy\u0026amp;filter=Brand\/Manufacturer\/Artist_fq:%22Portishead%22\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e from the guys down the road\u003c\/a\u003e (\"Hell Is Round The Corner\"). You’ll recognize some of the lyrics if you’re already familiar with Massive’s \u003cem\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?\u0026amp;q=Protection\u0026amp;filter=Brand\/Manufacturer\/Artist_fq:%22Massive%20Attack%22\" target=\"_blank\"\u003eProtection\u003c\/a\u003e\u003c\/em\u003e: Tricky was part of the \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?\u0026amp;q=Blue%20Lines\u0026amp;filter=Brand\/Manufacturer\/Artist_fq:%22Massive%20Attack%22\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cem\u003eBlue Lines\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e roster and had promised some vocals for follow-up even though he was on his way out, so he recycled some lyrics from \u003cem\u003eMaxinquaye\u003c\/em\u003e. \"I just make what I hear and then me and Martina sing all the words on paper, putting the emphasis on the things that perhaps shouldn't be sung\" (head straight for \"Abbaon Fat Tracks\" to get a taste what he's talking about).
