For me the standout here is Side A's \"Night Of the Sagittarius,\" a slab of raw dirty Detroit style funk that reveals \u003cstrong\u003ePittman\u003c\/strong\u003e's influence in the loud \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=Trax\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\u003eTrax\u003c\/a\u003e-style drums. The Chicago influence here is massive. On the flip, \"Selectors Theme\" is a deep roller and \"African Roots\" makes one imagine those shining Detroit towers on a Nigerian landscape. 1999\/2000 was a transition period in \u003cstrong\u003eTheo\u003c\/strong\u003e's sound as it became less low-fi in some aspects, and this is one of those records on which he was grasping for something new. They hit with a \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?\u0026amp;q=Essential%20Selections%20Vol.2\u0026amp;filter=Brand\/Manufacturer\/Artist_fq:%22Theo%20Parrish%20%26%20Marcellus%20Pittman%22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\u003esecond EP\u003c\/a\u003e on Track Mode a few years later; both have been repressed and are also \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/products\/theo-parrish-marcellus-pittman-essential-selections-vol-1-2-vinyl-2x12\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\u003eavailable as a pack\u003c\/a\u003e.
