Before going in to record \u003ci\u003eMotion\u003c\/i\u003e, Swinscoe collected samples of drums, basslines, and melodies from various recordings and artists that inspired and influenced him (spaghetti-western composer \u003ca href=\"http:\/\/turntablelab.mom\/search?q=Ennio+Morricone\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eEnnio Morricone\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e and \u003cstrong\u003eRoy Budd's\u003c\/strong\u003e spy film scores, 60s and 70s jazz and soundtrack scores from musicians such as \u003ca href=\"http:\/\/turntablelab.mom\/search?q=Elvin+Jones\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eElvin Jones\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e, \u003ca href=\"http:\/\/turntablelab.mom\/search?q=Eric+Dolphy\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eEric Dolphy\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003eAndre Previn\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003eDavid Rose\u003c\/strong\u003e, and \u003cstrong\u003eJohn Morris\u003c\/strong\u003e). From there he worked with a group of musicians, primarily \u003cstrong\u003eTom Chant\u003c\/strong\u003e (soprano sax, electric and acoustic piano), \u003cstrong\u003eJamie Coleman\u003c\/strong\u003e (trumpet, flugelhorn), \u003cstrong\u003ePhil France\u003c\/strong\u003e (bass), and \u003cstrong\u003eT. Daniel Howard\u003c\/strong\u003e (drums) to learn and improvise over the samples. Swinscoe then took recordings from the musicians and sampled and arranged them to create the songs on \u003ci\u003eMotion\u003c\/i\u003e. The results are lush and expansive, filled with the hallmarks of downtempo, classic soundtracks and the incessant energy of improvised jazz. The arrangements build on repeated grooves creating a sense of anticipation as phrases transform and mutate.
