Fast forward a few decades and Jamaican producers still looked Stateside for inspiration, resulting in the sort of recordings present on this excellent compilation of reggae disco covers from London’s \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=Soul+Jazz+Records\" target=\"_blank\"\u003eSoul Jazz Records\u003c\/a\u003e. \u003cem\u003eHustle! Reggae Disco\u003c\/em\u003e was originally released on CD and double vinyl all the way back in 2002, when both Reggae and Disco were only in their 9th revival period (what are we at now, I’ve lost count), and has been out of print ever since. The music lovers at \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=Soul+Jazz+Records\" target=\"_blank\"\u003eSoul Jazz\u003c\/a\u003e breathe new life into the project with five new tracks cut from the same cloth as the original 8 and spread the collection over three heavy slabs of vinyl. Worth it solely for \u003cstrong\u003eSharon Forrester\u003c\/strong\u003e's version of \"Love Don't Live Here Anymore” (good luck finding that original 7” for less than a hundo). \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=blood+sisters\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eBlood Sisters\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e' rendition of \"Ring My Bell\" was recently issued on 45 by reggae-disco enthusiasts \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?q=Ximeno%20Records\" target=\"_blank\"\u003eXimeno Records\u003c\/a\u003e (\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?\u0026amp;q=jennifer%20lara%20i%27m%20in%20love\u0026amp;filter=Brand\/Manufacturer\/Artist_fq:%22Jennifer%20Lara%20%2F%20Jose%20Cruz%22\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eJennifer Lara\u003c\/strong\u003e's version of Evelyn Hunt's \"I'm In Love\"\u003c\/a\u003e would make a great addition to this collection) but appears here in full with the smoked-out dub version taking up the second half. \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=Soul+Jazz+Records\" target=\"_blank\"\u003eSoul Jazz\u003c\/a\u003e gather these versions with broad strokes, as the source material is not always straight-up disco but rendered more floor-ready with a Caribbean touch (as in \u003cstrong\u003eErnest Ranglin\u003c\/strong\u003e's version of \u003cstrong\u003eThe Dramatics\u003c\/strong\u003e' \"In The Rain”). Some covers actually manage to upstage their source material, like \u003cstrong\u003eBlack Harmony\u003c\/strong\u003e's infectious version of \u003cstrong\u003eJean Carn\u003c\/strong\u003e's \"Don't Let It Go To Your Head”, one of the compilation’s highlights. \u003cem\u003eHustle! Reggae Disco\u003c\/em\u003e is chock full of sure-shots that work at peak time or as transition records, and is a no-brainer for purveyors of Reggae \u003cem\u003eOR\u003c\/em\u003e Disco.
