This new project was conceived when Tim (based in NYC) was working on some one-take improvisations, sending them on to Andy, who was looking to make some new music in the wake of a personal tragedy. In an interview with Vice, Tim says “We wanted Sanctuary Lakes to sound like it was completely submerged in water but that this would create a feeling of comfort rather than distress.” The disc starts with “The Long Fade Away”, sampled seashore and jangling acoustic guitar, sibilant dreamlike vocals and electronic bass. “Our Life Together” is soft-focus noodling, shimmering guitars and wonky chords. “Spring First” is a mere sketch of a song, burbling synths and reverberating strings.
