They're particular brand of thrash filled punk funk was unlike anything I had heard before. \"Too Many Puppies\" was really the first song to hook me in, but \"John the Fisherman\" was what got me. \u003cstrong\u003eTim \"Herb\" Alexander's\u003c\/strong\u003e funk filled drums, distorted and expertly played bass, \u003cstrong\u003eLes Claypool's\u003c\/strong\u003e quirky delivery and the guitar playing of \u003cstrong\u003eLarry \"Ler\" LaLonde\u003c\/strong\u003e had me begging for more from the start. Their sound was singular and totally original to my young mind. Sure they may have taken a little humor from \u003ca rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"http:\/\/turntablelab.mom\/search?q=Frank+Zappa\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eFrank Zappa\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e, had the simplified lineup of \u003ca rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"http:\/\/turntablelab.mom\/search?q=the+Police\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ethe Police\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e, and a penchant for the sprawling jams of \u003ca rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"http:\/\/turntablelab.mom\/search?q=Funkadelic\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eFunkadelic\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e, but it would be years before I could pickup on any of that. They were more funky and more out there than the \u003ca rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" href=\"http:\/\/turntablelab.mom\/search?q=Red+Hot+Chili+Peppers\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eRed Hot Chili Peppers\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e and that was all that mattered to me at the time.
