Cool to see a whole LP of \u003ca href=\"http:\/\/turntablelab.mom\/search?q=madlib\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\u003e\u003cb\u003eMadlib's\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e beat sketches in the mode of \u003ca href=\"http:\/\/turntablelab.mom\/search?q=special+herbs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\u003eSpecial Herbs\u003c\/a\u003e (ed. note: the first of many). To his credit, Lib takes the beats further than the straight loopiness of Doom's series, and similar to \u003ca href=\"http:\/\/turntablelab.mom\/search?q=doom\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\u003e\u003cb\u003eDoom\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e, there's enough mysterious samples to peak the most jaded beathead (plus enough strange synth sounds to baffle studio dudes). Highlights include Madlib revisiting \u003ca href=\"http:\/\/turntablelab.mom\/search?q=kraftwerk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\u003e\u003cb\u003eKraftwerk\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e and \u003ca href=\"http:\/\/turntablelab.mom\/search?q=james+brown\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\u003e\u003cb\u003eJB\u003c\/b\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e favorites on \"Open\" and \"The Payback\" the jump-up sounds of \"Sir Bang\" and \"Painted Pictures\" and the spacey leftfield direction of \"Eternal Broadcaster\" and \"Offbeat.\" 16 beats in all.
