The songs found on \u003cem\u003eThe Distance\u003c\/em\u003e cover much of the same ground as \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?\u0026amp;q=gaussian%20curve%20clouds\u0026amp;filter=Brand\/Manufacturer\/Artist_fq:%22Gaussian%20Curve%22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\u003e\u003cem\u003eClouds\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e. \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=gigi+masin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eMasin\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e’s synth work is, not-surprisingly, the star of the show here, and he shines whether he’s \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan class=\"s1\"\u003esimply laying down humble textures or rinsing the timeless electric piano vamps of \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?\u0026amp;q=gigi%20masin%20les%20nouvelles\u0026amp;filter=Brand\/Manufacturer\/Artist_fq:%22Charles%20Hayward%20%2F%20Gigi%20Masin%22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\u003e“Clouds”\u003c\/a\u003e (“Dancing Rain”, “Ceremony”). \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=jonny+nash\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eJonny Nash\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e’s subtle guitar licks manage to enhance the songs, even for someone like myself who scoffs at the the prospect of having to listen to a guitar record. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=young+marco\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eMarco\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e’s drum machine parts transform what might otherwise be ordinary spa music into a moody downtempo night drive (“The Distance”). A look at the gear list on the back of the sleeve had me wishing I hadn’t traded my Korg Poly800 for a Roland Alpha Juno, and that maybe I too could be churning out world class ambient synth pieces if only I had the right gear, until I realized the Juno was on the list as well.
