Keyboard melodies are joined by post punk inspired bass lines and sparse rhythms. The thing that sets Future Islands apart are the vocals of front man Sam Herring; raw and guttural, somewhat dramatic and nearly overdone. But with the skill of a tamed opera singer Herring imbues enough soul into his singing to create a distinctive voice that will win you over with a few listens. \"Tomorrow\" finds the band joined by a chorus of voices ready to lift you up. Things are a little more restrained on \"The Fountain\" but there is an undercurrent of emotion that is begging to wash over you.
