This exhaustive collection from San Jose space rock \/ slowcore trio \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?\u0026amp;q=Duster\u0026amp;filter=Brand\/Manufacturer\/Artist_fq:%22Duster%22\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eDuster\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e (as in, the shit you huff when you’re too broke to buy drugs) falls into this latter category. While their space rock progenitors spewed sprawling, reverb-soaked instrumental dirges as a means to tickle the urges of their childhood sci-if nerddom, or to provide a backdrop for their burnout homies’ sophomoric drug trips, \u003cstrong\u003eDuster\u003c\/strong\u003e were clearly launching themselves into space as a means to escape the heartache and banality of life in shithole Silicon Valley circa the dot com boom. No really, drop the needle anywhere on \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=article%2Cpage%2Cproduct\u0026amp;q=Stratosphere\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cem\u003eStratosphere\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e and it’s immediately apparent that these guys have more in common with \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=Sonic+Youth\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eSonic Youth\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e or \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=Red+House+Painters\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eRed House Painters\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e than \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=Spacemen+3\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eSpacemen 3\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e (listen real close and you can almost hear the blueprint for 2nd wave emo acts \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=American+Football\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eAmerican Football\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e and \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=The+Promise+Ring\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eThe Promise Ring\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e). Both \u003cem\u003eStratosphere\u003c\/em\u003e and \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=article%2Cpage%2Cproduct\u0026amp;q=Contemporary+Movement\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cem\u003eContemporary Movement\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e are full of visionary compositions pushing the confines of the traditional rock three-piece into the outer limits. While there’s so much to say about both albums, what really makes this set glow is the miscellaneous materials included on discs 3 and 4, as they include some of \u003cstrong\u003eDuster\u003c\/strong\u003e’s rarest and most arresting moments… particularly the haunting “Want No Light To Shine” (from the \u003cem\u003e1975\u003c\/em\u003e EP), eastern-tinged compilation cut “And Things Are Mostly Ghosts,” disappearer’s anthem “Four Hours” (from the \u003cem\u003eApex, Trance-Like\u003c\/em\u003e 7”) and the coveted “Echo, Bravo” (left off the original \u003cem\u003eStratosphere\u003c\/em\u003e LP). Not to mention six previously-unreleased tracks. 51 tracks in total, fully remastered and spread across 4 black LPs housed in individual tip-on jackets, with hard outer box and full-color booklet containing lyrics, drawings and photos.
