Like, if someone told you about a techno record by some producer calling himself \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=Bob+Marley\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eBob Marley\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e, how could you take it seriously? So anytime anyone recommended I check out a record by the Italian \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=Don+Carlos+house\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eDon Carlos\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e, I would do the “oh yeah totally I’ll look that up tonight when I get home and get on my laptop” but thinking to myself “\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/memecrunch.com\/meme\/B0ITM\/yeah-that-s-gonna-be-a-no-for-me-dog\/image.jpg?w=400\u0026amp;c=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\u003eyeah that’s gonna be a no for me, dawg\u003c\/a\u003e.” But man, was I fucking up! This EP, originally released on \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=irma\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\u003eIrma Records\u003c\/a\u003e sublabel \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=Calypso+house\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\u003eCalypso\u003c\/a\u003e in 1992, is clearly inhabited by the same sublime vibes found on concurrent records by the great \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=Larry+Heard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eLarry Heard\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e: soft pads, gentle synth leads and life-affirming basslines. “Free” foreshadows aspects of the dreamy \u003cem\u003etote bag house\u003c\/em\u003e currently trickling out of the Pacific Northwest on labels like \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=Mood+Hut\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\u003eMood Hut\u003c\/a\u003e and Pacific Rhythm, with sublime transposed chords and summery sax riffs dancing over a crunchy garage riddim. The main event, for me, is the title track: an expertly programmed jazzy bassline swirling through a sea of cosmic synth riffs and deeply soulful chords.
