But truthfully, \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eKoze\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e just sampled some of \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eJustin Vernon\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003cspan\u003e’s vocals from \u003c\/span\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?\u0026amp;q=Bon%20Iver%2C%20Bon%20Iver\u0026amp;filter=Brand\/Manufacturer\/Artist_fq:%22Bon%20Iver%22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\u003e\u003cem\u003eBon Iver, Bon Iver\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e\u003cspan\u003e standout “Calgary” - not that it takes anything away from the track\u003c\/span\u003e; if it were simply a \u003cstrong\u003eKoze\u003c\/strong\u003e remix of “Calgary” we’d be thrilled to have it on wax either way. \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=R%C3%B3is%C3%ADn+Murphy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eRóisín Murphy\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e’s vocals lend a delicate and soulful counterweight to \u003cstrong\u003eKoze\u003c\/strong\u003e’s breakneck sample cutups on “Illumination” (she also appears on the downtempo palate cleanser “Scratch That”). \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=Jos%C3%A9+Gonz%C3%A1lez\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eJosé González\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e, \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=Mano+Le+Tough\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eMano Le Tough\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003eEddie Fummler\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003eKurt Wagner\u003c\/strong\u003e of \u003cstrong\u003eLambchop\u003c\/strong\u003e and \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=Pampa+Records\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\u003ePampa Records\u003c\/a\u003e signee \u003cstrong\u003eSophia Kennedy\u003c\/strong\u003e also feature, plus (perhaps most surprisingly) \u003cstrong\u003eSpeech\u003c\/strong\u003e from \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=Arrested+Development\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eArrested Development\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e. As always, \u003cstrong\u003eKoze\u003c\/strong\u003e makes it abundantly clear he’s not pandering to DJs or tailoring his tracks to neatly fit into the Tetris block rigidity that often defines a techno set… he deploys broken beats, abrupt changes and beat switches with a playful wave of his wand. Although we’d love to hear what some of these tracks would do on a rig to a packed room, \u003cem\u003eKnock Knock\u003c\/em\u003e seems best suited for introspective listening sessions at home.
