But the two \u003ca rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=article%2Cpage%2Cproduct\u0026amp;q=Art+Official+Intelligence\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003ci\u003eArt Official Intelligence\u003c\/i\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e albums just didn't do it for me; they felt too calculated, lacking the spontaneity of their previous LPs, not to mention laden with some questionable production. With \u003ci\u003eThe Grind Date,\u003c\/i\u003e I regret ever doubting them. As their seventh studio album, this is also their most consistent and satisfying effort in recent years. Give ample credit off the bat to their production team which includes themselves along with \u003cstrong\u003eSupa Dave West\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?\u0026amp;q=j%20dilla\u0026amp;filter=Brand\/Manufacturer\/Artist_fq:%22J%20Dilla%22\" title=\"J Dilla Music on Vinyl LP\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"\u003eJ Dilla\u003c\/a\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003cstrong\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?\u0026amp;q=madlib\u0026amp;filter=Brand\/Manufacturer\/Artist_fq:%22Madlib%22\" title=\"J Dilla Music on Vinyl LP\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"\u003eMadlib\u003c\/a\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e, \u003ca rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=article%2Cpage%2Cproduct\u0026amp;q=9th+Wonder\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003e9th Wonder\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e and \u003ca rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=article%2Cpage%2Cproduct\u0026amp;q=Jake+One\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eJake One\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e - there's nary a flat track on here. From the ridiculous, tempo-shifting sickness of \"Rock Co.Kane\" to the pumped up funk slaps of \"Verbal Claps,\" and the uplifting energy of \"Church,\" De La leaps into \u003ci\u003eThe Grind Date\u003c\/i\u003e with a renewed vigor. There's just a tad too much \"give us our props, we're pioneers!\" on songs like \"The Future,\" but hell, few have earned the right as much as these three. Neither cloyingly commercial nor stubbornly underground, De La moves with a forward vision and leave the preachiness of past efforts out of it. Instead, songs like \"Church,\" \"The Grind Date,\" and \"It's Like That\" reflect the crew's mature perspectives on life and struggles. But just in case heads need to be thrown, they'll still hit with straight missiles on \"Days of Our Lives\" (feat. Common), and \"No.\" Other guests include \u003cstrong\u003e\u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?\u0026amp;q=mf%20doom\u0026amp;filter=Brand\/Manufacturer\/Artist_fq:%22Mf%20Doom%22\" title=\"MF DOOM Music on Vinyl LP\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\"\u003eMF DOOM\u003c\/a\u003e\u003c\/strong\u003e on \"Rock Co.Kane,\" and \u003ca rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=article%2Cpage%2Cproduct\u0026amp;q=Ghostface\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eGhostface\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e for \"He Comes,\" but this is still the De La Show, front and center.
