I'm writing this review a couple hours before I'm supposed to go meet up with CSS and spend a month with them inside a tour bus, where I know they will have a camera and will be keeping a video tour diary, so you'll excuse me if I'm extra selective with my words. Yes, CSS have a lot of buzz on them at the moment; yes, they're from Brazil; and yes, they're signed to Sub Pop. And though I'm not well-versed enough in rock history to cite their influences specifically, I can tell you that this ain't no baille funk, and that CSS are a good deal better than your average buzz band. "Let's Make Love & Listen To Death From Above" is the joint that's caught the most attention so far, and it's definitely the most DJ-friendly track on the album, with CSS banging out a steady & kool electro-disco backing for lead singer Luvfoxxx to do her thing on. "Alala" takes the electro in a sleazier direction, and "Fuck Off Is Not The Only Thing You Have To Show" is somewhere between the Slits and Gary Numan. Given the precedent set by Mu and Paris Hilton herself, any song about Paris Hilton is pretty much gonna be awesome, and I'm glad to say CSS' "Meeting Paris Hilton" follows suit. Finally, "Music Is My Hot Hot Sex" is just damn FUNKY and the vocals just sink deep into your brain – dare you not to hum that one later. 11 tracks; 35 minutes total.
