The band’s first album marries the instant accessibility of classic \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?\u0026amp;q=New%20Order\u0026amp;filter=Brand\/Manufacturer\/Artist_fq:%22New%20Order%22\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eNew Order\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e singles with the icy austerity of \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=minimal+wave\" target=\"_blank\"\u003esome band reissued by Minimal Wave\u003c\/a\u003e you’ve never heard of, brimming with catchy picked bass, discordant synths and husky vocals. Opener “Cruel Summer” gets straight to the point with what remains the band’s finest ever bassline and one of Stewart’s catchiest hooks. The robotic coldwave of “UK,” “Safe Minds” and “Limitations” are enough to turn you to stone, but occasional moments of warmth ooze through the cold steel framework: “A Great Design” and “MSQ No-Extra” hint at a sentimental cadence Stewart would later perfect on \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?\u0026amp;q=Iron%20Lung\u0026amp;filter=Brand\/Manufacturer\/Artist_fq:%22Black%20Marble%22\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cem\u003eIt’s Immaterial\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e.
