It's apparent from the opening title track that this is going to be a new chapter in the story of \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/collections\/vinyl-cds-date?_=pf\u0026amp;pf_v_artist_band=Arcade%20Fire\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eArcade Fire\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e. Similar to career defining moments like U2's \u003ci\u003eAchtung Baby\u003c\/i\u003e and Radiohead's \u003ci\u003eKid A\u003c\/i\u003e, this is a band taking a risk and reinventing themselves right before our eyes. Don't worry, though - They have not shed their Indie Rock skin entirely - it's just that where they were previously content to mine the catalogs of the likes of \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=bruce+springsteen\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eBruce Springsteen\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e or \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=pavement\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003ePavement\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e, they are now knee-deep in \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=roxy+music\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eRoxy Music\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e and the \u003ca href=\"https:\/\/www.turntablelab.mom\/search?type=product\u0026amp;q=talking+heads\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eTalking Heads\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e. Murphy's touch can be felt most in the rhythmic interactions within the band, and the extended arrangements of many of the songs. The first half of the album is loaded with these moments, especially the dramatic synth rock of the title track and \"Here Comes The Night Time.\" \"Afterlife\" is a perfect encapsulation of The Arcade Fire's sound at this point, as their music continues to develop into something more worldly and diverse.
