Love the move of closing out the album with a cover of Ike Hayes' \"Hung Up On My Baby\" too (yes, the song sampled for \"Mind's Playin Tricks On Me\"). Eventually he ended up in front of the head of Nigerian Interpol, who told him \"I'm going to talk to you in my office....\" \"You get office?\" Kuti asked sarcastically. \"You foolish stupid bastard! You low-down sonofabitch, you dog, you goat, you.....\" Fela would spend the next threes days in jail while the authorities waited for him to produce an incriminating sample. He and his cellmates would swap waste buckets and the police were forced to let him go without any evidence. The track itself is a tough piece of Aforbeat that features extended solo from trumpeter Tunde Williams. On the flip is a cut that is worthy of a 12\" on it's own. \"Water No Get Enemy\" is slower in pace but no less powerful. Fela is front and center with his trademark tenor sax and the rhythm section is tight as ever. In the same vein, \"Mind Power\" is one of my all time favorite JB tracks utilizing the minimal instrumentation as the stage for JB's spoken slang. Keep listening as JB gives way to the flute, horn, guitar, and drum solos. The simple, but genius laid out masterplan, as JB does to the live band what most producers can't comprehend behind the boards. \"Time is Running Out Fast\" features one of his experimentations with afrobeat, borrowing the heavy percussion that seamlessly meshes into the thick JBs' sound. Check the grunts on this track, that's some shit. \"Take Some Leave Some\" provides the hip intro busting into the JB's power ballad stance. Two decades later, and this is simply a classic soul record which proclaims its rightful place in the canon, and doesn't sound the least bit dated. You just can't dispute the soul and confidence of tracks like \"Jonz In My Bonz,\" \"Me And Those Dreamin' Eyes Of Mine,\" and the done-me-wrong mastery of \"Shit, Damn, Motherfucker.\" Not even Huey \u0026amp; Gwyneth can sully the memory of \"Cruisin,\" and \"Lady\" is still a stealth banger. \u003ca href=\"http:\/\/turntablelab.mom\/search?q=d%27angelo\" target=\"_blank\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eD'Angelo\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/a\u003e blends mid-'90s hip and deep-fried soul so effortlessly here that it's scary.
