Corgan, along with producer \u003cstrong\u003eButch Vig\u003c\/strong\u003e, would spend inordinate amounts of time working on the smallest parts of music in their quest for perfection. The two had spent so much time recording the album that they were too exhausted to mix it. It was well received by critics and fans alike, with some going so far as to say The Smashing Pumpkins had created a whole new sound.
